Die Suid-Afrikaanse Polisie Ster vir Voortreflike Diens is op 22 Julie 1969 deur die Staatspresident aan a2.b3.d7.e9.f2.g1. Kaptein Nicolas Johannes Henning * 6-7-1935 toegeken vir ‘n daad van besondere dapperheid, buitengewone vernuf, vaardigheid en deursettingsvermoë. Gedurende 1969 is hy een van die polisiemanne wat deur die regering na Rhodesië (Zimbabwe) gestuur is om te help met die bestryding van terroriste wat Rhodesië en Suid-Afrika probeer infiltreer het. Die toekenning van hierdie dekorasie deur die Staatspresident spruit voort uit ‘n voorval in die Zambesivallei, Rhodesië (Zimbabwe) waartydens die peloton, waarvan hy bevelvoerder was, deur ANC terroriste in ‘n hinderlaag gelei is. Weens sy dappere en doelgerigte leierskap het sy peloton die aanval afgeweer en ‘n klinkende oorwinning behaal. Deur Kapt N J Henning self aan die Henning museum geskenk
The South African Police Star for Distinguished Service was awarded on 22 July 1969 by the State President to a2.b3.d7.e9.f2.g1. Kaptein Nicolas Johannes Henning * 6-7-1935 for a deed of exceptional bravery, extraordinary ingenuity, skilfulness, and perseverance. During 1969 he was one of the police officials the government sent to Rhodesia (Zimbabwe) to assist with the combating of terrorists who tried to infiltrate Rhodesia and South Africa. An incident in the Zambesi Valley, Rhodesia (Zimbabwe), where the platoon under command of Capt Henning was led into an ambush, led to the award of this decoration by the State President. Due to his valiant and purposeful leadership, his platoon warded off the attack and achieved a resounding victory. Donated to the Henning museum by Capt N J Henning himself
